Responsibilities

JOB KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrates sufficient knowledge to independently perform the duties of the position as stated in the job description
    • implements appropriate procedures in working with other hospital resources (i.e., lab, x-ray, physical therapy)
    • demonstrates knowledge of use and care of general and patient equipment
    • demonstrates ability to teach adult learner - on job training
    • demonstrates appropriate procedure to follow in event of an emergency such as cardiac arrest, power failure, fire, etc.
    • maintains current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • ensures that proper techniques and practices are used according to TVH standards of practice, policies and procedures, and physician preferences
    • adheres to ASPAN standards of practice and POHA / PACU protocols

PRODUCTIVITY

  • manages the transition of total hip and knee arthroplasty patients across the continuum of care
    • demonstrates clinical competence by the end of the initial employment/probationary period
    • performs duties daily with minimal supervision
    • ensure appropriate preop preparation for every total hip and knee arthroplasty patient
    • demonstrates ability to work selectively with one or two patients while being cognizant of needs of other patients and team members
    • manages patient demographic information in Recovery Coach
    • utilizes Recovery Coach for patient education, communication, and data collection
    • coordinates and manages the Total Joint Class content, schedule, and instructors
    • organizes, reviews, and provides feedback for program protocols, care plans, and patient educational offerings
    • assists in the collection and analysis of performance metrics data
  • demonstrates the ability to accurately assess the preoperative patient and postoperative patient and ensure the continuity of care by: continuous observation, thorough and complete documentation, and giving and receiving of reports
    • demonstrates knowledge, management and intervention of: airway management, oxygen therapy, emodynamic monitoring and maintenance; cardiac monitoring, blood infusion (including autologous, drainage collection systems) neuro-vascular assessment, pain management, medication therapy
    • accurately implements physician orders
    • demonstrates knowledge of crash cart, where supplies are located on the cart, and ability to use emergency equipment
    • notifies surgeon/anesthesiologist of patient condition changes and implements appropriate intervention
  • demonstrates initiative in completing job responsibilities
    • demonstrates ability to organize work and set priorities
    • works overtime as requested by supervisor
    • maintains clean, safe, and orderly work area
    • performs special duties in a timely manner
    • utilizes time effectively
    • performs other duties as requested
  • returns to work area on time as scheduled, and punctually returns from meals and breaks
    • follows appropriate procedure for planning and arranging schedule changes as well as vacation and holidays
    • complies with departmental policy when calling in absent
    • complies daily with department policy of clocking in and out
    • performs “on call” coverage according to departmental policy
  • practices detailed safety and infection control measures with knowledge of handling of hazardous materials including universal precautions protocol
    • identifies and reports health and safety hazards to manager, and corrects as necessary
    • verbalizes location and purpose of Safety Data Sheets
    • demonstrates cost-effective concerns regarding resource usage; supplies, overtime, etc.
  • charges appropriately for supplies and time charges
    • clocks out on time when patient care does not necessitate overtime
  • participates (as requested) in continuous quality improvement, quality assurance, and quality control activities for the department and surgical center
    • performs monthly audits as assigned

SECONDARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Cross-trained to work in Pre-Admission Testing. Responsible for providing complete surgical charts to prep areas the day before scheduled surgery. Will ensure patient safety by thorough review of the patient’s chart, written orders, and communication with physicians and other healthcare providers. This position is responsible and accountable for the supervision of, and obtaining, preoperative lab reports, physician orders, previous medical history documentation, and will adhere to Treasure Valley Hospital’s policies, procedures, and established standards and protocols.

Qualifications

License or Certification

  • Idaho RN license, BLS. Nurse Navigator Certification preferred.

Total Education, Vocational Training, And Experience

  • BSN from an accredited nursing school; minimum of 2.5 years nursing experience and knowledge in orthopedics. Total joint replacement experience is preferred.
