Background

The Idaho Youth Risk Behavior Survey from 2021 showed that suicide is currently the second leading cause of death among youth in Idaho. Of those surveyed, 45% of Idaho students had stopped doing some of their usual activities because they felt so sad or hopeless almost every day for two weeks or more in the last year. Additionally, 28% of students in Idaho purposely tried to hurt themselves without wanting to die one or more times and 11% of Idaho students attempted suicide in the previous year.

About the Series

ECHO Idaho’s K12 Youth Suicide Prevention series is led by an interdisciplinary panel comprised of a child psychologist, school social worker, school counselor, school nurse, gender diverse youth advocate/specialist, and indigenous mental health specialist.

Participating in ECHO Idaho helps you connect with other peers statewide. These sessions are designed to be collaborative, engaging and immediately applicable to your practice.

In the sessions, you’ll learn about various approaches and resources to help identify risk and protective factors, which help to increase a person’s willingness and ability to intervene with a student at risk of suicide. In addition, participants will receive insightful feedback on student cases.
